Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2009, Volume 3, Issue 4,   Pages 393-398 doi: 10.1007/s11705-009-0252-z

Abstract: -psicose exits in an extremely small amount in nature and is difficult to be chemically synthesized. Only three bacteria have been used in the biotransformation of -psicose from -fructose. In this paper, another bacterium which could convert -fructose to -psicose was isolated and identified as . The process parameters of -psicose production using permeabilized cells of SK011 were optimized, including the permeabilization procedure: 0.1% (w/v) CTAB, 10min, and reaction conditions: cell concentration, 30g dry cell wt/L; concentration of substrate, 50g/L; 40°C, pH 9.0; reaction time, 8 h. Under the optimized conditions, the permeabilized cells produced approximately 6.5g/L -psicose with a -psicose productivity of 0.82g·L·h. This is the first report of bioproduction of -psicose using permeabilized cells of .

Abstract: To overcome the shortcomings of existing robot localization sensors, such as low accuracy and poor robustness, a high precision visual localization system based on infrared-reflective artificial markers is designed and illustrated in detail in this paper. First, the hardware system of the localization sensor is developed. Secondly, we design a novel kind of infrared-reflective artificial marker whose characteristics can be extracted by the acquisition and processing of the infrared image. In addition, a confidence calculation method for marker identification is proposed to obtain the probabilistic localization results. Finally, the autonomous localization of the robot is achieved by calculating the relative pose relation between the robot and the artificial marker based on the perspective-3-point (P3P) visual localization algorithm. Numerous experiments and practical applications show that the designed localization sensor system is immune to the interferences of the illumination and observation angle changes. The precision of the sensor is ±1.94 cm for position localization and ±1.64? for angle localization. Therefore, it satisfies perfectly the requirements of localization precision for an indoor mobile robot.

A convolutional neural network based approach to sea clutter suppression for small boat detection

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2020, Volume 21, Issue 10,   Pages 1413-1534 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1900523

Abstract: Current methods for radar target detection usually work on the basis of high signal-to-clutter ratios. In this paper we propose a novel convolutional neural network based dual-activated clutter suppression algorithm, to solve the problem caused by low signal-to-clutter ratios in actual situations on the sea surface. Dual activation has two steps. First, we multiply the activated weights of the last dense layer with the activated feature maps from the upsample layer. Through this, we can obtain the s (CAMs), which correspond to the positive region of the sea clutter. Second, we obtain the suppression coefficients by mapping the CAM inversely to the sea clutter spectrum. Then, we obtain the activated range-Doppler maps by multiplying the coefficients with the raw range-Doppler maps. In addition, we propose a sampling-based data augmentation method and an effective multiclass coding method to improve the prediction accuracy. Measurement on real datasets verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Fire hazard in transportation infrastructure: Review, assessment, and mitigation strategies

Z. NASER

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 1,   Pages 46-60 doi: 10.1007/s11709-020-0676-6

Abstract: This paper reviews the fire problem in critical transportation infrastructures such as bridges and tunnels. The magnitude of the fire problem is illustrated, and the recent increase in fire problems in bridges and tunnels is highlighted. Recent research undertaken to address fire problems in transportation structures is reviewed, as well as critical factors governing the performance of those structures. Furthermore, key strategies recommended for mitigating fire hazards in bridges and tunnels are presented, and their applicability to practical situations is demonstrated through a practical case study. Furthermore, research needs and emerging trends for enhancing the “state-of-the-art” in this area are discussed.
